Entry to the Main School

We only accept children into the main school if they are to remain with us until the age of 11+ (the end of Year 6 at least). We do not prepare children for external examinations at ages 8+ 9+ or 10+. We do, however, prepare children for Grammar School Examinations at 11+ including our own Rastrick Grammar.

After the Main School

Most children will gain entry to top grammar schools at 11+. We undertake four years preparation (from 7 years old) with your child to ensure the best and widest possible choice of secondary school which will suit your child, if your child is assessed as having the potential to benefit from all the school has to offer.

Examinations: an examination syllabus is in place for four years through Upper 3, Upper 4, Upper 5 and Upper 6. This, together with the National Curriculum and our own school syllabus, should gain our children places, and perhaps scholarships, at top secondary schools. Individual work programmes will prepare less academic children for the best possible school to suit their needs.

Close liaison is maintained with senior schools in the area and with public schools nationally. Our motto of ‘Only the best for the best’ is clearly demonstrated here, as it is throughout the school. Since 1996 (our first year of external examinations), 100% pass rate has been achieved by our pupils in external examinations. They have gained places at the North Halifax Grammar Schools and other independent grammar schools in the area.

From September 2003 we will be catering for students up to the age of 16. For further information please see The Rastrick Independent School section.
