The Premises

Close Lea House has the exclusive use of its own purpose-built early years premises with extensive surrounding grounds. These secure grounds, an environmental area, children’s garden, lawn and adventure playground give provision for supervised outdoor activities.  A recent addition has been an outdoor covered classroom intended for all the year round outdoor play.

The building has an entrance area with cloaks, ample toilets including a disabled facilit, and baby changing room.

Close Lea House also offers:

A large playroom which accomodates Pre-Preparatory is known as the ‘Parrot Perch’. This has a carpeted area where groups of children are able to play and socialise before and after the school day. There is a television and video in addition to the television room’s facilities which include video games. During the school day this area is used for the curriculum; for large/small/ group/class time, small world or constructive play, music with instruments and dance and movement and gymnastics.

This room also has a dining area which is also used for creative and craft activities. The television room is not used during curriculum time.

The Pre-Preparatory Nursery (2-3 years) has it’s own ‘class-base’ on the first floor. Such young children are not ‘taught as a class’ however, and they also enjoy all the facilities of Close Lea House including their own area very similar to that of Phoenix House Nursery. This has direct access to outdoors with an extended play area and garden.

Indoors there is a playroom, bathroom, baby changing area and clothes airer, a ‘wet’ area for sand and water activities, a sleep room and a ‘quiet’ room for reading and role-play.

Lower Kindergarten (3-4 years) also has its own class-base on the first floor. As well as using the outdoor and ground floor facilities, the 3-4 year olds have their own bathrooms, wet room for sand and water, role-play room for domestic play, dressing-up and themed imaginative play.

A separate games room is used for a full physical education programme during curriculum time. These activities provide opportunities for the enhancement of skills of movement and use of space, experience of large and small apparatus, climbing and balancing, throwing and catching, and how to keep bodies healthy through exercise and diet.

Safety

Security is one of the main features of Close Lea House. We ask that you ring the bell and wait to be received. No unknown person is admitted and representatives and casual callers are asked to telephone for an appointment with the Headmistress. CCTV is in operation both indoors and outdoors.
