The Premises

Phoenix House has the exclusive use of its own purpose-built nursery premises in a bungalow-type building with surrounding grounds.  These secure grounds give provision for supervised outdoor activities, a lawned area and a garden.

The building has a reception area with cloaks, toilets and family trays, where written communications are placed for you and where you are able to leave letters for the Headmistress.   The nursery also comprises:

A large playroom which accommodates your child’s play equipment and quiet areas for chairs and books and a specially designed area for paint and sand and water play.  French windows open into the lawn and the securely gated  play areas and playground.

A ‘Sleep Room’ houses an ample supply of cots and beds, however, weather permitting, the babies are laid to sleep in the nursery’s large, high, coach-built prams which are placed outdoors.  Your child will only have a sleep if they need one.          We aim to stimulate and be involved with your child throughout the entire day.

A ‘Baby Room’ which is designed to resemble your lounge at home.  It is furnished with large comfortable sofas and chairs where children can learn to ‘stand up’ and move around safely.  There is an abundance of toys for your child’s stimulation.        The Baby Room is used when your child needs a special time with nanny, away from the main playroom activities.

A Baby-Changing Room, a separate laundry and storeroom and a milk and domestic kitchen are sited in designated areas around the main play room.

The children have access to the school’s main playground, the two Early Years outdoor play areas, gymnasium and the indoor Early Years play activities and equipment.    They also share the main school’s dining room, medical room, library, television and video area.  They also use the outdoor environmental play area.

Security is one of the main features of the nursery.  We ask that you ring the bell and wait to be received.  No unknown person is admitted and representatives or casual callers are directed to the  main school and asked to telephone for an appointment with the Headmistress.

Use is made of the wider local environment, local walks, the park and play area and the school playing fields.
